    1. How do I sign up for lessons, ensembles, or group classes? And when do I start?

You can email the CMS at and express your interest in lessons. If you can include the student's name, instrument/ensemble/group class preference, and if you have a teacher preference, that'd be great! 

After we get your request for lessons, we will immediately add you to our Wait List and if an instructor has room in their studio, the instructor will contact you to find a day/time that work for lessons. 

In terms of a start date, sometimes you will start at the beginning of a semester if a teacher has room in their studio. Or you could be added mid-semester. However, teachers continuously see our Wait List and we will try to get you into lessons as soon as we can.


   2. Who should take lessons at the CMS?

Anyone who:

  • Is interested in learning to play a new instrument
  • Wants to improve singing abilities or skills on a current instrument
  • Wants to join our children's choir for students in grades 3-8
  • Wants to join our community choir for ages 16 and older
  • Wants to try out private lessons for the first time – we have instruction for students of ALL ages and ability levels!


   3. How long can my lesson be?

Lesson length will vary and be determined between you and your instructor. The minimum is 30 minutes and the max can be up to 60 minutes. Pricing for lessons can be adjusted to any length.


   4. How do I turn in my money to pay for my lessons?

You can either bring your money with you to give to your instructor, or bring your money to drop by the CMS Office (lower level of Darbeth), or you can mail it in to:

   5. What are the benefits of teaching for the CMS if I want to gain more experience?

  • Creating a personal studio policy
  • A location for lessons & recitals
  • Free publicity for the independent teachers
  • Money is handled by the CMS administrator
  • Numbers of students
  • Protection of a public place
  • Lobby/waiting area for parents and students
  • Advertise studio recitals on-campus
  • Organize studio events
  • Bring guest artists on-campus
  • Variety of spaces to work in


6. How do we handle books for lessons?

Your teacher or the CMS can choose what books they think best fit your child/student. In terms of ordering it, either we will tell you which book to order, or we will order the book for you and charge you for that cost.


7. What ages does the CMS teach?

We typically can start someone as young as Kindergarten or First Grade, and there is no age cap for lessons. Our goal is to appeal to all age ranges in the community and want to make sure everyone has the chance to learn music.


8. How do I apply for financial aid for lessons/ensembles?

You can fill out our CMS Financial Aid Assistance form and email it to the CMS at . The Executive Director will then look it over and email you back with the results.
