Placement & Progression

Initial Placement

You will arrive on campus 2 days before classes begin for placement and orientation.  The placement test includes an oral interview, short essay, and the Oxford Online Placement Test. Students may take the placement test one time only.  Results will determine the student’s placement into Basic, Intermediate or Advanced level.  Students placing at a certain level will take two sessions at that level, i.e. Basic A & B.

Students must receive a C or better in all classes to pass the level.  Grades will be determined by the instructor based on class work, projects and exams.

Program Completion

Students who complete Advanced sessions A & B will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.  Students who complete the Intensive English Language Program with a 3.5 GPA or higher will also receive a Certificate of Merit.

A Certificate of Completion satisfies the English language requirement for admission into Southwestern College.  Students may present TOEFL or IELTS scores to SC Office of Admission at anytime for consideration.
