Allyson Moon is the Director of Theatre at Southwestern College. She has worked extensively with creativity theory which has led to an active pursuit of theatre across the disciplines and improvisational acting. In 2001, she collaborated with Southwestern students to found the 9 LIVES Laughatorium and Good Times Improvisational Comedy Troupe which is in its 19th year. As an actor, director, designer, and administrator, she has worked in professional, educational, and community theatres.

Her work as a director and educator has resulted in numerous commendations from Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) for both herself and her students. Most recently, she received commendations for staging and direction of the original adaptation of OVER THE GARDEN WALL and the contemporary musical ORDINARY DAYS. In 2007, she received their most prestigious honor, the KCACTF Gold Medallion. Since that time she has been honored by Southwestern College with the Fassnacht Teaching Award and Charles H. and Vera R. Award for Kopke Distinguished Teaching.

During the 2015– 16 academic year she co-authored the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre. The first degree of its kind at Southwestern. In the spring of 2018 she applied for and received a Faculty Development Grant in order to support her study of the organizational structure and season development of the Utah Shakespeare Festival. That research continues.

Since 2011, she has directed the multi-faceted Southwestern College Summer Theatre Festival. In addition to providing entertainment for Winfield and South-Central Kansas, the Festival focuses much of its attention on the educational benefits of theatre for area youth and Southwestern College students. The Festival partners with the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council in order to provide the educational outreach component.

In the community of Winfield, she serves on the Green Team Committee, an environmental awareness group, at Grace United Methodist Church and is a member of the Marquee Performing Arts Center Board of Directors. The Marquee board is working to transform the movie theatre in downtown Winfield into a performing arts center for the community.
