Please read the following carefully and share this information with the guests you have invited to join you in your celebration.

Parents and guests are invited and encouraged to join graduates in attending the departmental receptions for main campus graduates and the Honors Convocation.

Main Campus Departmental Receptions
2:30 p.m.

Business and MBA (Memorial Library)
Natural Science and Mathematics (Deets Lobby)
Performing Arts (Darbeth Lobby)

Honors Convocation – Richardson Performing Arts Center
4 p.m.

Graduates and faculty will gather outside, at the bottom of the 77 steps at 3:40 p.m. in cap and gown. In case of inclement weather, you will gather in the basement of the Christy Administration Building.

Although this is a traditional main campus program, Professional Studies learners who qualified for the Dean's Honor Roll for fall 2012 will be recognized on the printed program. Professional Studies learners and their families are welcome to attend and participate in the convocation should they choose to do so.

Baccalaureate Service
10:00 a.m. in Richardson Performing Arts Center

  • There is no seating order for this service (you may sit with your friends and family).
  • Caps and gowns are not worn to the service.
  • All graduates and their families are invited to attend.

Order of the Mound Ceremony and Reception
11:30 a.m. at the Cole Mound Plaza
(located on the south side of Mossman just off Kirk Drive.)

  • Recognition of students graduating in the top 10% of the class and meeting guidelines stated in the college catalog.
  • Graduates will be notified May 3rd and 4th if they qualify for this honor.
  • Caps and gowns are worn for this ceremony.

In case of inclement weather the ceremony will be held in Messenger Recital Hall in the Darbeth Fine Arts Building.

Receptions

10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Communications, Computer Science, English (Christy 13)

10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Nursing Reception (Wroten Hall)

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Social Sciences Majors & Minors and Main Campus MSL Reception for graduates and their families. A light lunch will be served. (Welcome Center)

11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p,m.  Education (Mossman 107 and 108)

11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Professional Studies Reception (Dining Hall of the Roy L. Smith Student Center)


Commencement Ceremonies

Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony
1:00 p.m. Richard L. Jantz Stadium

12:00 p.m. Pick up name cards and line up in Stewart Field House.

  • Caps and gowns are worn for this ceremony.
  • Photographers will be available to take pictures prior to the procession to Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
  • Line up order is by degree not major.
  • Procession to the east side of Stewart Field House.
  • Listen carefully to instructions given and follow your junior marshals.
  • The stage party and the faculty precede you in line. When you proceed to the seating area, sit down to be sure every chair is filled.
  • The junior marshals will cue you when it is time for your row to stand and proceed to the stage.
  • Return to your seat for the remainder of the ceremony.
  • You will be given two name cards—one card for the reader as you enter onto the stage; the second card should be given to the photographer’s assistant when your picture is taken with the flags after crossing the stage.

Graduate Hooding and Commencement Ceremony
5 p.m. Stewart Field House

4:00 p.m. Pick up name cards and line up in Richardson Performing Arts Center.

  • Caps and gowns are worn for this ceremony.
  • Photographers will be available to take pictures prior to the procession to Stewart Field House.
  • Line up order is by degree not major.
  • Procession to the northwest entrance of Stewart Field House.
  • Listen carefully to instructions given and follow your junior marshals.
  • The stage party and the faculty precede you in line. When you proceed to the seating area, sit down to be sure every chair is filled.
  • The junior marshals will cue you when it is time for your row to stand and proceed to the stage.
  • Return to your seat for the remainder of the ceremony.
  • You will be given two name cards—one card for the reader as you enter onto the stage; the second card should be given to the photographer’s assistant when your picture is taken with the flags after crossing the stage.

  • If there is a possibility of rain, please an umbrella. Graduates will process outside on the way to Stewart Field House.
  • Photographers will be available to take pictures prior to the procession to Stewart Field House.
  • Line up order is by degree not major.
  • Procession to the northwest entrance of Stewart Field House.
  • Listen carefully to instructions given and follow your junior marshals.
  • The stage party and the faculty precede you in line. When you proceed to the seating area, sit down to be sure every chair is filled.

Simulcasts

The following locations are available for viewing of the undergraduate ceremony:

  • Richardson Performing Arts Center
  • Java Jinx in the Roy L. Smith Student Center
  • Campus Life lounge in the lower level of the Roy L. Smith Student Center

The simulcast locations are climate controlled. The ceremony is also broadcast locally over cable channel 20. A webcast of the ceremony can be viewed by following the Commencement 2013 link at www.moundbuilder.com.


Photo Ops

During the commencement ceremonies, there will be a picture taken of you and the President and another of you in front of the flags. There will also be a designated area for family to take pictures of you should they choose to do so. Your name, address, and email address have been provided to GradTrak Graduation Images. If you have not received your proofs within two weeks from the Commencement Ceremony, you may contact them at cmook@gradimages.com or by calling 800-628-4509.


Moundbuilder Market

Moundbuilder Market, located in the basement of Roy L. Smith Student Center, is Southwestern College’s logo and apparel store. The Moundbuilder Market will be open:

  • Friday, May 3rd – 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 4th – 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 5th – 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Parking

Parking will be available for persons with handicap permits in the parking lot between Christy Administration Building and Roy L. Smith Student Center. Security personnel will assist you in finding parking and by providing rides on golf carts. For your convenience, parking is also available at the Winfield High School with shuttle service to the commencement site.
