Admission - Main Campus

1. To be admitted into the MED graduate program on Main Campus, please fill out the online application.

2. Transcripts for Southwestern College graduates are on file. All other students should arrange for submission of official transcripts of all prior college/university coursework. Applicants must hold a recognized baccalaureate degree with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).

3. Two confidential letters of recommendation using the recommendation form for graduate programs (at least one from a current or former employer or professor).

4. Please respond in writing to the following prompts in a single, essay style document.

  • Your essay should reflect substantive thought and attention to writing quality.
  • Your essay response should be 250-300 words in length per question (750-800 total).
  • Your essay should be typed, double-spaced on standard-sized paper (8.5" x 11" or A4) with 1" margins on all sides. APA recommends using 12 pt. Times New Roman font.

Think of an occasion in previous studies or work where you have had to integrate learning and practice.  Explain what that was, how you went about doing it, and what you learned from the experience, particularly about your own strengths and weaknesses. What kind of challenges existed and how did you handle it?

We emphasize collaborative learning and collegial interaction at Southwestern College. In what specific ways would you contribute to a worthwhile classroom and/or online learning experience, especially as it relates to your peers and your instructors? How and what would you contribute to this collaborative learning and collegial interaction? 

Discuss your personal and academic skills. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. How will you contribute to your success as a graduate student and professional?  How do you compensate for your weaknesses?

5. All international learners must show evidence of their English language ability by providing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) report.  A score of 60 (PBT/paper test) or 70 (iBT/computer-based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is considered the minimum acceptable for admission to this program.  

Applicants who hold bachelor's degrees from a U.S. institution or from an institution in another English-only speaking country will receive a waiver of the TOEFL. Applicants who are from native English-speaking countries are not required to take the TOEFL. 

A candidate’s file must be complete before an admissions decision may be made.  It is the responsibility of each candidate to provide all of the information requested above.  Candidates will receive an email stating their admission to their graduate program; subsequently they may enroll in their first class.
