Christopher Fox to Present Guest Lecture

Christopher Fox,  professor of philosophy at Newman University in Wichta, will present the Guest Lecture at Southwestern College on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m., in Messenger Recital Hall in the Darbeth Fine Arts Building.  There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend.

Dr. Christopher FoxThe topic of his lecture is “But You're Not a 'Real' Musician! (or Thinker): Thought and Play between Philosophy and Music.”

“Dr. Christopher Fox is unusual in the sense that he continued to play as a musician after becoming a philosophy professor,” says Jacob Goodson, associate professor of philosophy at Southwestern College.  “In his lecture for SC, he plans to reflect on what these two vocations have in common: musician and philosopher. I believe the title of his lecture is intentionally ironic: only a 'real' musician or philosopher could claim with any meaning that they are neither a 'real' musician or philosopher.”

Christopher Fox earned his PhD at the University of Memphis. He grew up in the Seattle music scene of the 1980s and 1990s, recording with the band Bitter End and, later, in Memphis with The Also. He has toured with former Queensryche vocalist Geoff Tate and continues to play bass when he can.
