Builder Coaching Seminar Coming April 3

Southwestern College students Trey Abasolo and Jordan Jackson have organized an event, through their capstone class, called the Builder Coaching Seminar on Wednesday, April 3, from 4:30-7 p.m., in Wroten Hall.  There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend.

According to Abasolo and Jackson, the seminar is an opportunity for aspiring young coaches to hear from championship coaches from Southwestern.  The individual speakers are head football coach Brad Griffin and head baseball coach Mark Carvalho. Griffin has led the SC football team to two KCAC championships while Carvalho has led two different KCAC schools to a combined five conference titles.

Panel speakers are head women’s basketball coach Chardonnae Parker, head men’s and women’s golf coach Marcus Willey, and football running backs coach Keyshawn Wyatt. After the panel discussion, there will be time to mix and mingle with coaches and other audience members.

“The panel members are all relatively young coaches, still transitioning from players to coaches,” Abasolo says.  “This is an opportunity for many students to hear from coaches who have been in their shoes. Also, coaches from around the area can come and gain different perspectives from coaches of different sports. The seminar will also be a place for students at SC to learn about current and new classes at SC that can be applied in the coaching profession.”

Brad Griffin will speak at 4:30 p.m., Mark Carvalho at 5 p.m., and then the panel discussion with Chardonnae Parker, Marcus Willey, and Keyshawn Wyatt at 5:30 p.m.  Audience members may come and go as they please.
