SC Student Honored While in Iraq

Sean Roberson, Wichita, was recently inducted into Sigma Tau, a chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, an honor society for adult learners.  Unfortunately, Roberson was not in attendance for the ceremony.  He didn’t forget to attend; he was just out of town. Roberson is currently serving his country in Iraq.

While in Iraq, Roberson continues to pursue a bachelor’s degree in operations management.  His anticipated graduation date is December 2010.

“We are so proud of Staff Sergeant Roberson,” said Karen Pedersen, SC’s vice president for professional studies. “We are pleased to be able to offer an educational opportunity for our servicemen and women that they can continue even if deployed. Their dedication to our country and to their education at the same time is truly amazing.”

The requirements for inductees include having completed 30 or more hours at Southwestern College Professional Studies with a cumulative grade-point-average of a minimum of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.  Only the top 20% of learners who meet these criteria are invited to be members of Sigma Tau.

Roberson’s commanding officer at McConnell Air Force Base accepted the certificate at his request.
