Annual Safety Report

The report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, fire safety, university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security and safety on campus. It also contains information about crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by SC; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by law and is provided by The Division of Student Affairs at Southwestern College.

Campus Security Act

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is the landmark federal law, originally known as the Campus Security Act, that requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses.

Because the law is tied to participation in federal student financial aid programs it applies to most institutions of higher education both public and private. It is enforced by the U.S. Department of Education.

The college must provide a statement advising the campus community where law enforcement agency information provided by a state concerning registered sex offenders may be obtained, such as the law enforcement office of the institution, a local law enforcement agency with jurisdiction for the campus, or a computer network.

Institutions are required to provide the campus community with information that would enable them to obtain this public information on campus.  The intention of this requirement is to afford the campus community the same availability of information about registered sex offenders as they would have in their home communities under Megan’s Law.
