MESSAGE FROM THE NEW HEAD OF THE PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM

     Welcome current students, future students, and alumni! I am very excited to be taking over for Dr. Claudia Geer. She has done an amazing job with the psychology program and I am looking forward to making it even better. Before taking this position, I was a professor at Florida State University. The state of Florida and the university were great, but if you can believe it what Southwestern can offer beats out both. As a Kansas native it does offer me a closer proximity to family, but it also offers a remarkable academic home. I get an opportunity to really know my students and work closely with them in the classroom, through research activities, and in outside events. I won't have a situation any longer where I recognize a student, but I don't know their name. I am looking forward to helping each and every student in their pursuit of a career with their psychology degree.

 Mission Statement

The mission of the Psychology Program at Southwestern College is to encourage intellectual achievement and ongoing inquiry, and to prepare students for professional careers in psychology or for employment in related fields.  We will provide a program that emphasizes thinking scientifically about behavior and mental processes with content relevant to current work in psychology as well as classic theory and research.  We will provide information regarding continued education and/or career opportunities in psychology, and assist individual students as they explore their values, interests, abilities and goals.
