Grant Program

Each fall the Southwestern College Philanthropy Board (SCPB) in conjunction with the Nonprofit Leadership class distributes a new request for funding proposals.  The RFP focus changes each grant cycle. The details of the RFP and deadline dates can be found in the online application and the pdf.

Spring 2024 Grant Program Details

SCPB Summary

The Southwestern College Student Philanthropy Board (SCPB) was developed from the Students4Giving Campus Compact grant awarded in August of 2008.  With this funding, Southwestern created the SCPB as well as the Non-profit Leadership class offered on the main campus to explore all aspects of the philanthropic process.  The SCPB is committed to developing an opportunity for students to explore philanthropy, non-profit organizations, community partnerships, and available grant resources.  The SCPB and the class work together annually to distribute grant funding to community-based non-profit organizations that demonstrate a need in accordance with the needs statement below.

Needs Statement

The SCPB and Non-profit Leadership class of Spring 2024 are offering one grant of $1,000* to an existing non-profit devoted to a specific need in their identified community addressing community health. Community health as defined by: Community health refers to non-clinical approaches for improving health, preventing disease, and reducing health disparities through addressing social, behavioral, environmental, economic, and medical determinants of health in a geographically defined population. Funds will be awarded to a non-profit organization in one of the following counties: Cowley, Sedgwick, Sumner, Elk, and Chautauqua. *Funds must be used for a specific project and not to be applied to fundraising or operating expenses. 

Dates and Deadlines

February 22, 2024 - Granting period open for Request For Proposal

March 22, 2024 - Completed RFP grant application due to the SCPB

April 11, 2024 - Grant award winner announced

April 25, 2024 - Awards Ceremony

December 31, 2024 - All grant funding from the SCPB must be utilized as stated in the grant request

If awarded funding, the organization agrees to provide documentation of success to the SCPB. The organization will be held accountable for its proposed program in this application. A date for the post-evaluation will be determined by the SCPB. Please provide evaluation contact information.


  • Must be located within one of the following counties: Cowley, Sumner, Elk, Sedwick, Chautauqua
  • K-12 schools, Churches, or Non-profits with a focus towards community health
  • The grant money should not be used for fundraising or operating expenses.
