Early Alert Notification

Southwestern College employs an Early Alert system through which faculty may notify students if their academic progress, attendance and/or class participation is not optimal.

Information generated from these Alerts is directly conveyed to the student, the student’s coach (if an athlete), the student’s faculty advisor, the dean of students and the campus housing director.  If the Alert is for an international student, the report is also sent to the SC director of international programs.

Campus members who are recipients of these notifications reach out to students who are experiencing academic difficulties and work with them directly, or refer them to appropriate campus resources. In many cases triage takes place between faculty, staff and coaches.

Faculty can initiate a report at any time during a term, with two, regularly-scheduled campus-wide reports conducted at the end of the 4th and 12th weeks of the semester.

Additionally, the Office of the Registrar develops an academic deficiency list at mid-term; each student on this list is contacted personally with a prompt to seek academic assistance in the Student Success & Retention Center.
