Early Alert Notification

Southwestern College employs an Early Alert system through which faculty may notify students and the students support system if their academic progress, attendance and/or class participation is lacking.

Information generated from these Alerts is directly conveyed to the student’s coach (if an athlete), the student’s faculty advisor, the dean of students, the campus housing director and the Student Success Center.  If the Alert is for an international student, the report is also sent to the SC director of international programs.

Campus members who are recipients of these notifications reach out to students who are experiencing academic difficulties and work with them directly, or refer them to appropriate campus resources.

Faculty can initiate a report at any time during a term, with one, regularly-scheduled campus-wide report conducted at the end of the 4th week of the semester.  Research shows early intervention can help students succeed.
