Students whose major or minor is within the business administration division must earn a grade of “C” or better in each course taken within the division (ACCT, BUS, ECON) to meet graduation requirements.

Why Accounting?

The accounting job market is growing. As of May 2018, there were 1.4 million accountants and auditors working in the country, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS projects there will be 90,700 jobs added to the market from 2018 to 2028. From the smallest start-ups to the biggest government agencies, every organization requires the skills of an accountant. To a potential employer, an accounting degree means high ethical standards, superior education, and effective analytical skills.

Why Accounting at Southwestern College? 

Southwestern College accounting alumni for the past five years are currently employed in public accounting, private accounting, education, and working on graduate degrees. Furthermore, twelve percent of our accounting graduates from the past five years have obtained CPA licensure and another fifteen percent are working toward that goal. Fifteen percent of these graduates have either obtained or are currently working toward an MBA. Thirty-five percent of the Southwestern College accounting graduates from the past five years have earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Accounting and Business Administration.

Activity Grant

Accounting students are encouraged to get involved at Southwestern College. Accounting students often become involved in the Division of Business’s Builder DECA. BUILDER DECA is a business organization open to any student preparing for careers in business and business-related fields or an interest in business.

In addition, the Builder DECA team competes nationally at the Regional and National Exposition events sponsored by DECA. Students who are interested in Builder DECA are eligible for an activity grant to support your degree and involvement in Builder DECA.
