What is an internship?

An internship is an invaluable opportunity to see firsthand what a particular industry is like. Paid or not, you will be able to see how the classroom education you are getting applies in the actual workplace. Often internships are temporary, part-time work experiences where you will gain an understanding and skills that are highly attractive to future employers.

Why do I need one?

All students can stand to benefit from having work history when they leave college as there are some things you do not experience until you are in the work environment. It is an even more powerful career-building tool when your experience is in your industry of choice. Often employers are looking to hire someone who is not only qualified academically but also knows what they are getting themselves into. Someone who has worked in their industry is more likely to be a good fit for an employer than someone who has only achieved a degree.
