The Office of Financial Aid encourages students to apply for scholarships from private organizations to reduce the need to borrow money to finance their education.

Scholarship announcements are reviewed for relevance and authenticity before they are posted below. Once on the list, the postings are regularly reviewed to keep them up-to-date. Private scholarship applications, amounts and deadlines vary. Most scholarships must be renewed annually.

Pathable ($1,000) 

Pathable, an event website and app developer based in Seattle, WA is giving away a $1,000 scholarship to a female student going into their freshman year of college or a female student who is currently enrolled in a computer science or computer related degree from an accredited university. SCKMC Auxiliary Scholarship ($1,500)

Four $200.00 scholarships will be available each semester from the South Central Kansas Medical Center's Auxiliary. Recipients may recieve up to $400.00 annually, for three years (six semesters), for a sum of $1,200. Applicants must: have completed high school with a 67005 zip code, have completed thier freshman year of college (24+ credit hours), have maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher, and are working toward a degree in a health care field. The Poshified.com Scholarship was created to help empower women through education.  It is awarded twice a year and the applications for the Spring Semester of 2017 are currently being accepted. The focus of the Poshified.com Scholarship for this award period is: STRONG WOMEN! The Poshified.com Scholarship is open to all female students enrolled in an accredited college or trade school. Boren, David L. Undergraduate Scholarship for Study Abroad (up to $20,000), Deadline: February 9

The National Security Education Program (NSEP) offers a unique opportunity for U.S. undergraduates to study abroad. NSEP awards scholarships to American students for study of world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American & the Caribbean, and the Middle East). NSEP has established National Foreign Language Initiative (NFLI) pilot programs to provide intensive language study opportunities for students already at the "Advanced" level to achieve the "Superior" level in these languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, and Russian. NSEP/NFLI award recipients will receive full funding to attend a certain program of study for up to two years. James Madison Foundation Scholarship ($24,000)

Applicants must be a teacher or plan to become a teacher of American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level. Applicants must have earned an undergraduate degree by August 31 of the competition year. Recipients are expected to complete one of the following degrees: M.A., M.A.T., or M.Ed. with an emphasis on American history, government, political science or other relevant concentration. NAAMLP Scholarship ($2,000)

NAAMLP is a non-profit, professional organization that promotes the reclamation and restoration of lands affected by abandoned mining throughout the nation. Title IV of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA) established the national Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Reclamation Program administered by the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE), U.S. Department of the Interior.  SMCRA’s purpose is to reclaim land and water resources adversely affected by past coal mining and left abandoned or inadequately restored. SMCRA levies fees on active coal mining to pay the reclamation costs. Collected fees are deposited in the AML Fund and distributed to authorized states and tribes to implement their own programs. NAAMLP is the professional association of States and Tribes who work under the auspices of Title IV of SMCRA. The $2,000 NAAMLP Scholarship is intended to assist in the education of students who intend to work as scientists, engineers or technicians in the field of mine land reclamation. Scholarship monies will be awarded in the form of a tuition check made out to the accredited educational institution of your choice to be received at the annual NAAMLP conference.  Three (3) scholarships will be given: 1) to a student enrolled in a school in the eastern geographic area of the United States (generally those states within or near the Appalachian Region of the OSMRE); 2) to a student enrolled in a school in the Mid-Continent of the United States (generally those states within or near the Mid-Continent Region of the OSMRE); and 3) to a student enrolled in a school in the Western Region of the United States (generally those states within or near the Western Region of the OSMRE).  The scholarship holders are invited to attend the 2017 NAAMLP Annual Conference in Lexington, Kentucky from September, 24 to September 27, 2017.  Costs (travel, lodging, per diem up to a total of $1000) and Conference registration fees will be covered in addition to the scholarship.
