The Office of Financial Aid encourages students to apply for scholarships from private organizations to reduce the need to borrow money to finance their education.

Scholarship announcements are reviewed for relevance and authenticity before they are posted below. Once on the list, the postings are regularly reviewed to keep them up-to-date. Private scholarship applications, amounts and deadlines vary. Most scholarships must be renewed annually.

January

Chairish Scholarship ($2,500)

This scholarship is open to students of all majors, but preferred to applicants pursuing a design and engineering-related fields. The requirements for this scholarship is that you have a minimum GPA of 2.0, are a senior in high school, enrolled in a college or university. Hospital Careers Future Nurse Scholarship ($1,000)

As part of our effort to support the healthcare industry's efforts to remedy the current nursing shortage, we have put together a scholarship available to nurses of all specialty areas. Eligibility: Applicants must be full-time students enrolled in a regionally- or nationally-accredited institution & pursing a degree in nursing or a specialty of nursing with at least 30 completed credit hours. Boren, David L. Undergraduate Scholarship for Study Abroad (up to $20,000), Deadline: February 9

The National Security Education Program (NSEP) offers a unique opportunity for U.S. undergraduates to study abroad. NSEP awards scholarships to American students for study of world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American & the Caribbean, and the Middle East). NSEP has established National Foreign Language Initiative (NFLI) pilot programs to provide intensive language study opportunities for students already at the "Advanced" level to achieve the "Superior" level in these languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, and Russian. NSEP/NFLI award recipients will receive full funding to attend a certain program of study for up to two years. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency at no less than the "advanced" level across all skills according to the standards established by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages. Combined Scholarship Fund of Greater Fort Riley (17 scholarships totalling $25,000)

This scholarship is available to the Greater Fort Riley community. To qualify for these funds you must be a qualified military family member (child or spouse) of an active duty, retired, or deceased military member, of the Greater Fort Riley community. Qualified family members may also apply if the military sponsor has be re-assigned to a foriegn country. OppU Achievers Scholarship ($2500)

Opploans.com is offering a  scholarship worth $2,500 for current or future education costs. Scholarship selections are made four times a year. Annually, the OppU Achievers Scholarship awards a total of $10,000 to students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement. To be eligible for the OppU Achievers Scholarship, a student must be enrolled full time in high school or at least part time in college, graduate, professional, or trade school, Possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 and be be a U.S. citizen. American Academy of CPR & First Aid Scholarship ($1,500)

The “Save a Life” Scholarship of, $1,500, is awarded twice per year: once in the spring and once in the fall. Each $1,500 award will go to a different student, in order to maximize the impact of the scholarship, spread the word of the importance first aid and CPR training, and share more stories from future educators and healthcare professionals. Any student currently enrolled in, or applying to enroll within the next academic year, in a degree program in the fields of healthcare or education, at an accredited U.S. university, is eligible to apply. NAAMLP Scholarship ($2,000)

NAAMLP is a non-profit, professional organization that promotes the reclamation and restoration of lands affected by abandoned mining throughout the nation. Title IV of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA) established the national Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Reclamation Program administered by the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE), U.S. Department of the Interior.  SMCRA’s purpose is to reclaim land and water resources adversely affected by past coal mining and left abandoned or inadequately restored. SMCRA levies fees on active coal mining to pay the reclamation costs. Collected fees are deposited in the AML Fund and distributed to authorized states and tribes to implement their own programs. NAAMLP is the professional association of States and Tribes who work under the auspices of Title IV of SMCRA. The $2,000 NAAMLP Scholarship is intended to assist in the education of students who intend to work as scientists, engineers or technicians in the field of mine land reclamation. Scholarship monies will be awarded in the form of a tuition check made out to the accredited educational institution of your choice to be received at the annual NAAMLP conference.  Three (3) scholarships will be given: 1) to a student enrolled in a school in the eastern geographic area of the United States (generally those states within or near the Appalachian Region of the OSMRE); 2) to a student enrolled in a school in the Mid-Continent of the United States (generally those states within or near the Mid-Continent Region of the OSMRE); and 3) to a student enrolled in a school in the Western Region of the United States (generally those states within or near the Western Region of the OSMRE).Costs (travel, lodging, per diem up to a total of $1000) and Conference registration fees will be covered in addition to the scholarship. Washington Accord is offering 12 students each $1,000 scholarship. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application and how the applicant has overcome the challenges of being a single mother or part of the LGBTQ community and any discrimination you have faced in your life because of who you are. The Zebra Scholarship ($1,000)

Applicants must create an original two to five minute video discussing their favorite road trip destination in their state. ZendyHealth Med Tech Scholarship ($2,000)

Are you interested in improving healthcare through Medical Technology and do you have a great idea to help advance the field? If so, you should apply to ZendyHealth’s $2,000 Med Tech Scholarship Program. In order to qualify for ZendyHealth’s Med Tech Scholarship you must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program in Pre-Med, Computer Science / Engineering, Information Technology, Public Health, Nursing, or Psychology. In fewer than 1000 words, explain a startup idea for either a new company, new application, or new innovation in the field of healthcare technology. Pitch this idea to us as if you were looking for funding for the startup. Crawford & O'Brien Scholarship ($250)

Crawford & O'Brien will award two $250 scholarship prizes to two college students during the 2015-2016 school year to be used toward tuition or purchasing books. We want to help a student who is really in need of funds for their studies. Comrade Digital Marketing Scholarship ($500)

We are pleased to announce our very first “Comrade Digital Marketing Scholarship Program.” Designed to assist students pursuing marketing and/or business degrees, the $500 scholarship will be awarded to one student selected annually, and to be applied toward their education expenses. Both undergraduate and graduate students can apply for the scholarship program, provided they are enrolled in a full-time degree program in an accredited college, university, or graduate school. South Central Kansas Medical Center Auxiliary ($1,800)

This scholarship is availabe for six semesters at $300 per semester, for a total of $1,800. Applicants must, be an Arkansas City graduate, health care or natural science major, have completed one full year, having 24 college credit hours or more, maintain at least a "B" grade point average, and enrolled in at least 12 hours (full-time) or more each semester. Applicants must be well-rounded, determined to succeed and have achieved excellence outside the classroom.
