Military Benefits

Department of Veterans Affairs logoSouthwestern College proudly serves and supports members of the military and their families as they complete their education.  Military education benefits are available for students currently serving on Active Duty, for veterans who have served on Active Duty and for their spouses and children.

Students Currently Serving in the Military
If you are current serving in the military, you may be eligible for funding offered through the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance Program (TA).  Check your eligibility status and the amount for which you qualify with your Service prior to enrolling.

Students eligible for TA Benefits should enroll at Southwestern College using the Third Party Payment option when prompted and select Military TA.  After enrolling in each session, the student should send a copy of their military TA form to accounts@sckans.edu.  A separate TA form should be submitted for each session the student is enrolled.

Please note: Tuition Assistance can be used to cover tuition only.  Fees charged to the account are due before the start of the course.  Students can view an electronic copy of their balance on Self Service in the Finance tab.  More information on applying Military Tuition Assistance benefits at Southwestern College can be found online.

Students currently serving in the military and on Active Duty may also be eligible for additional military education benefits.  If the student is also using GI Bill® or Top-Up benefits in combination with their Military Tuition Assistance Benefits to assist in paying for their education, questions on those programs should be directed to the Coordinator of Military Education for the Professional Studies program.

Southwestern College is proud to be a TA Approved, Military Friendly Educational Institution which has served members of the military for more than 20 years.  For full information on how to connect with the Southwestern College military services - particularly for the online and professional studies programs, view the dedicated military website and information.

Military Veterans
If you served on Active Duty, you might be eligible for education benefits offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs and more commonly known as the GI Bill®.  The term GI Bill® refers to any Department of Veterans Affairs education benefit earned by members of Active Duty, Selected Reserve and National Guard Armed Forces and their families.  The benefit is designed to help service members and eligible veterans cover the costs associated with getting an education.  The GI Bill® has several programs and each is administered differently depending on an individual's eligibility and duty status.

Post 9/11 GI Bill® - For example, students who received an honorable discharge may use the Post-9/11 GI Bill® which provides financial support for educational and housing expenses to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days.

Students attending Professional Studies or online programs should visit the dedicated military website or contact the Coordinator of Military Affairs for questions on applying military benefits to their education.  Students attending the residential campus should contact the Office of Financial Aid.
